National Dairy Council
Being a registered dietitian, nutrition is always top of mind for me. The work of National Dairy Council has focused on nutrition research, education and communication for nearly a century and has always been about finding ways to encourage healthy diets and lifestyles. I am proud that our efforts have influenced many people, especially children in schools. But there’s more that can be done.
With an ever-growing population, the issue of hunger is getting a great deal of attention recently, both globally and here at home. Because there is always the conflict of the quantity of food that can be secured and the nutritional quality of that food, many of our hungry are also obese. We know that finding a solution to this problem will take everyone working together.
With that in mind, National Dairy Council has joined forces with Feeding America and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to help fight hunger and promote healthy food choices for the nation’s 49 million citizens who are food insecure. With this collaboration, we hope to raise awareness of the issue, educate thought leaders and consumers about ways to integrate nutrition principles in feeding programs and increase access to healthy foods.
We believe that to make a lasting change, the process starts on the farm, affects the food manufacturers and marketers and reaches all the way to those distributing and receiving the food, all with an eye to balanced diets and healthy, nutritious foods. While there are already great conversations happening about food security, we are excited that this unique partnership can make a big difference and impact more people. We’ll continue to provide updates as details develop. Click here to see more about this partnership from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
