In too many homes throughout the country, certain essentials are missing from refrigerators, cabinets and pantries. In fact, nearly one in six Americans, including 16 million children, face hunger every day – but we can help.
According to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief charity, milk is one of the items most requested by food bank clients, yet there’s a nationwide shortage because it is rarely donated. In fact, the 37 million Americans who are served by Feeding America each year receive the equivalent of less than one gallon of milk per person per year.
But now there’s an easy way for Americans to rally together to solve this problem. National Dairy Council in partnership with Feeding America teamed up dairy farmers, dairy companies, retailers, food banks and pantries, health and wellness professionals and local communities to launch an innovative campaign that will give all of us the chance to make a meaningful difference to millions of hungry families.
It’s called the Great American Milk Drive, the first-ever nationwide program that helps deliver highly desired gallons of milk to hungry families who need it most in local communities across the U.S. Milk, which is packed with nine essential nutrients, including protein, can help provide those nutrients that Americans need.
For each donation, about the cost of a latte, you can send a gallon of milk to a food bank in your very own community – and there are two easy ways to help:
- Simply text “MILK” to 27722.
- Visit MilkLife.com/Give, or click the image below, to donate a gallon. By entering your zip code, you can ensure that milk is delivered to a food bank in your own community.
